PeriodontologyPeriodontology incorporates the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the periodontal apparatus. This includes inflammation and/or degenerative changes to the gum and the jaw bone holding the tooth (tooth socket), and is generally called "periodontosis". Usually this disease has a chronic progression and is pain-free, so that for a long time the patient notices nothing. It starts with inflammation of the gum, which then spreads to the underlying bone and destroys the tissue. If this disease is left untreated the tooth can first become loose and then prematurely lost. The main causes are poor oral hygiene, smoking, and a genetic predisposition, but pregnancy and individual general illnesses with weakening of the immune system can also be associated with periodontitis. In our office we can offer appropriate and customised periodontal treatments: >> Prophylaxis and dental hygiene by highly qualified professional
staff With this treatment, deep cleaning of the inflamed tooth pockets and treatment with a strong-acting antibacterial mouthwash eliminate the inflammation and therefore the progress of periodontosis. This procedure often avoids the necessity for surgery. If the periodontosis is persistent and cannot be eliminated by the above-mentioned "Full mouth disinfection", we carry out follow-up periodontal therapies with localised microinvasive surgery and - only if very strictly indicated - with local or systemic antibiotics. To rebuild the bones and tissue we work with the most modern regenerating GBR/GTR technology and materials. If periodontosis is advanced, then complete regeneration of the lost tissue is usually impossible. After the periodontal therapy has finished, the patient is included in a regular recall system. This means that our dental hygienists carry out professional teeth cleaning at scheduled intervals. In this way a stable condition of the periodontal tissue can be maintained and controlled. |
