Dentistry today enables people to achieve aesthetically perfect teeth.

One of the most promising methods for doing this in the anterior region is that of ceramic fascias or what are known as "veneers". They can be used to cosmetically improve healthy teeth and also for reconstruction of poor teeth in the visible anterior region. Non-invasive, they also offer permanence while the colour, shape and the position of teeth can be changed.

Compared to crowns this procedure is much less invasive since considerably less of the tooth's substance has to be ground away on its visible side. The wafer-thin ceramic shells (approx. 0.5 mm) have an invisible attachment to the tooth and provide excellent transparency and light reflection. This provides the appearance of luminosity and a natural-looking result. In the case of teeth with dark discolouration, gentle whitening is recommended prior to treatment with ceramic veneers to prevent problematic background discolouration.

The process first involves a diagnostic procedure of creating the new tooth shape and position in wax on a plaster cast model of the patient's dentition. Then any desired changes can be modelled without problems and discussed in order to get an idea of the end result. Only when the patient is happy with the diagnostic wax-up will the dentist start gently grinding down the whole front side of the teeth involved. After taking an impression, the dental technician joins the patient in deciding on the right colour and then the veneers are prepared. Finally the dentist will fix them onto the ground-down surfaces of the teeth so they are completely non-detachable using a sophisticated adhesion process. In this way the ceramic veneer covers the whole visible area of the tooth.

Veneers are durable and can bear the same stresses and loads as natural teeth. The result is a translucent tooth-coloured unit with incomparable natural aesthetics.
